On May 25, 2023, the City of New Port Richey held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Fire Station No. 2, which will be a 7,876 square foot, cutting-edge facility that will be built on a 1.19 acre tract of property that was gifted to the city by the Kulhawik family in 1987. The City of New Port Richey is very proud of this new facility. This new station is meant to protect firefighters from carcinogens and other combustion products with features such as a hot zone, a warm zone, and a cold zone.

The importance of this project was emphasized by Fire Chief Chris Fitch, who pointed out that the station’s decontamination washers, clean uniforms, and drive-thru bays will help lower the danger of cancer, which is the top cause of death among firefighters. The facility will feature office areas, a day room, training, and exercise facilities, a bunker gear storage room, a commercial-grade kitchen, dormitory-style beds, and a private outdoor patio area.

The new fire station would give fire and emergency medical services to the U.S. Highway 19 corridor, the downtown sector. It would have outstanding east/west capabilities, all while maintaining a response time of four minutes or less, according to City Manager Manns, who was proud to underline this fact.

She concluded, “This new facility reflects our firefighters’ strength, integrity, and positive public image – values essential in keeping our community safe.”

Manns further announced that the esteemed Spring Engineering designed the building will be constructed by the reputable E&L Construction Group, with completion expected by summer 2024.

The City of New Port Richey’s new Fire Station No. 2 will serve as a reminder of the strength and dedication of its firefighters, whose sole purpose of protecting and keeping the community safe will be enhanced with this state-of-the-art facility. As an added layer of protection from cancer, the decontamination washers, clean uniforms, and drive-thru bays will make a measurable difference in the safety of these first responders. Combined with the excellent response times to the emergency services on U.S. Highway 19 corridor, downtown district, and east/west capabilities, Fire Station No. 2 is a beacon of hope for all those entrusted with safeguarding our community.
